Objective: As Taiwan transitions into a super-aged society, community-based preventive interventions have become a critical strategy for promoting healthy aging. Occupational therapy plays a key role in this context by emphasizing meaningful activities to enhance physical and psychological well-being as well as life participation. This study aimed to examine
older adults’ participation preferences and satisfaction with community-based “Disability Prevention and Delay Programs”, and to analyze the influence of demographic variables on
program satisfaction. Methods: A questionnaire-based survey design was employed. The study was conducted at three community sites in Tainan City that implemented “Disability
Prevention and Delay Programs”. A total of 32 valid questionnaires were collected. The structured questionnaire comprised four sections: demographic characteristics, activity
preferences, program satisfaction, and additional suggestions. Results: The results indicated that most participants were female, aged 65 years or older, and retired, with an overall high level of satisfaction. Regarding activity preferences, “muscle-strengthening exercises” were rated as the most popular, most rewarding, and most necessary course, whereas “oral
health care” was considered least needed. In terms of satisfaction, “activity design” and “staff arrangement” received the highest ratings, while “activity schedule”, “frequency”, and “facility equipment” were identified as primary areas for improvement. Further analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between participants’ educational level and their ratings of instructors’ “punctuality”, “responsibility”, and “enthusiasm”. Conclusion: Overall, older adults expressed strong approval of the program; however, there remains room for improvement in course diversity and facility adequacy. The findings reveal the actual needs and activity tendencies of middle-aged and older adults in community program participation. These results can serve as an important reference for optimizing program design and promoting interprofessional collaboration in government initiatives, thereby facilitating the realization of healthy aging among older adults.
