Wireless network has been widely used in today's society. We can develop a wireless network positioning technology based on the already set-up wireless access points to save the cost of building hardware systems. In addition, Taiwan's elderly population has reached 10.09 percent of the entire population (about 2.31 million people). The nursing and caring issues accompanyied by the advanced age phenomenon are worthy of in-depth study. As the elderly age, their bodies recess physiologically, increasing greater risks of being struck by acute illnesses or environmental harm than the other age groups. Without immediate medical care, the degree of injury tends to be more serious. The positioning system, therefore, shortens the time needed to find the injured elderly and is able to locate the site precisely, giving the person in need the most immediate rescue. Studies on the existing positioning technology and its advantages and disadvantages will be discussed in this paper along with the application problems encountered. The method mentioned in this paper has some shortcomings, for example: high hardware cost, manpower-consuming, time-consuming, and having to take measurement on a fixed schedule basis. However, employing the reference point will overcome the problems. Hence, the reference point is used in the positioning technology of this study. The positioning device is able to locate the senior citizen at all times. And when the accident button on the device is triggered, it is able to send signal to the rescuers regarding the elderly whereabouts through the positioning system. It shortens the time spent on locating the injured so as to give immediate rescue. Consequently, the serious injury rate causing by the miss of immediate rescue opportunity among senior citizens can be greatly reduced.
